But if you’ve bought Manuka honey you’ve probably noticed it’s very expensive, well, the real stuff is anyway! In fact, depending on the grade you get, it can get 6 times the price of regular honey going right up to €40!
A lot of companies are labeling their honey as manuka when it’s not. Authentic manuka honey can only be collected from manuka flowers growing in remote parts of New Zealand and of course, they can only produce so much! The easiest way to identify what’s real and what’s fake is to look out for ‘UMP’ written on the jar – meaning unique manuka factor and that will be clearly stated on the label.
But really don’t get obsessed with manuka honey. Most honey is fine just remember to buy local and raw honey. Raw honey is honey that hasn’t been heated or pasteurized, and it contains natural vitamins, enzymes, powerful antioxidants, and other important nutrients.
Raw, local honey also contains a blend of local pollen, which can strengthen a person’s immune system, and reduce pollen allergy symptoms. So remember don’t fall into the Honey Trap!
